Here is the recipe of a easy Bangladeshi snack called ‘Aloo Chop.’ It is not only served as snack but also it can be a great appetizer to start. This recipe used egg to make it simple, but I will provide measurements or ingredients for those who wants to try it with meat filling.

What is Aloo Chop?
In Bangladesh, we eat Aloo Chop as an appetizer. It is basically made with mashed potatoes and filling. For the filling, most of the places use boiled egg. If one wants to make it with more extra flavours, they can use ground meat (chicken or beef) to give it a great twist.
Ingredients of Aloo Chop
Here are the ingredients for both egg and meat filling.
How to cook
Step 1: Firstly, on a medium pot, boil potatoes and eggs together. Remove the eggs after 12 minutes and rest it for couple minutes to let it cook inside properly.
Step 2: Then once potatoes are boiled, peel the skin. Likewise, peel the boiled eggs and place it in a different container. Also, cut eggs accordingly like the picture below.


Step 3: Next, by using hand nicely mash the potatoes. If you dont want to use hand then the bottom of the glass can be a handy tool.

Step 4: After that one by one add onions, salt, green chilli, spices and mix it well with the mashed potatoes.


Step 5: Once the spices are mixed well with the mashed potato, make potato balls with hand. Press in the middle to create space for filling egg or meat inside. Meanwhile prepare the pan to heat up and add enough oil to fry the Aloo Chop.


Step 6: When the oil is heated, one by on roll over the chaaps on egg and breadcrumb, and cook it on the pan.


Step 7: It will give a fine golden color each sides. Turn each aloo chop carefully so that it doesn’t break.

Step 8: Serve warm aloo chops with the dipping sauce.

Meat filling process:
Step 1: On a medium pan, heat the oil. Now add spices, ginger garlic paste, salt and cook for a while in medium temperature.
Step 2: Once the spice is cooked well, add ground chicken or beef and cook stir well to mix with the spice. Then put the lid on to let it cook slowly.
Step 3: Stir it once in a while. Once it is cooked well, turn off the stove and let it cool down.
Step 4: Rest of the steps are exactly same.
Cooking tips
It is important to make filling is properly covered with the mashed potato. Also, make sure to fry all the sides to get crispiness on the top.

Aloo Chop Recipe (আলুর চপ)
Equipment
- Frying pan
- Medium Pot
- Gloves if needed
- Medium Plate for the breadcrumb
Ingredients
- 4-5 Boiled yellow potatoes
- 3-4 Boiled eggs
- 1½ cup Ground meat (chicken or beef) (only for meat based filling)
- ½ Ginger and Garlic paste (only for the meat filling)
- 3 Shallot onions (thinly cut)
- 3-4 Green Chilli
- 1 tbsp Spices (red chilli powder, cumin, cumin powder, coriander powder)
- Salt (as needed)
- Breadcrumbs or coating mix (as needed)
- Olive oil (as needed for frying)
- 1 egg (for frying)
Instructions
